Gran Turismo & Monza

Grand Turismo races have played a key role in the history of the Monza Autodrome. In the 1970s, the Coppa Intereuropa was one of the most popular events at the circuit. Interest in GT racing then waned over the years and it was only in 1992 that an Italian GT Championship was created, marking the rebirth of the category. From that moment growth has been exponential, with a series of international championships being introduced, featuring cars and drivers of the highest order.

This book traces, year by year, the complex story of these championships from 1970 through to the present day, explaining the evolution of the regulations and the cars, but also recording the results of the most important races. Space is also devoted to the single-marque series - Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini – with the story being told through a vast array of photographs, in the main previously unpublished, and painstakingly researched historical texts.

Le gare per vetture Gran Turismo hanno avuto un ruolo molto importante nella storia dell’autodromo di Monza. Negli anni ’70, la Coppa Intereuropa era fra le manifestazioni più seguite. Poi, negli anni, l’interesse per le GT è andato scemando e solo nel 1992 è stato creato un Campionato Italiano GT, che ha segnato la rinascita di questa Categoria con una crescita che da quel momento si è fatta esponenziale, con tutta una serie di campionati internazionali e con vetture e piloti di primissimo livello.

Questo volume, anno dopo anno, ripercorre la complessa e articolata storia di questi Campionati, dal 1970 ad oggi, spiegando l’evoluzione dei regolamenti e delle vetture, ma riportando anche i risultati della gare più significative. Non sono tralasciate le serie monomarca – Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini –, il tutto ripercorso e raccontato attraverso un vastissimo repertorio iconografico, per lo più inedito, e testi, in italiano e in inglese, puntuali e rigorosi nella ricostruzione storica.
